EP0041: Keds talks to Sarah Palmer about living alcohol free

This weeks guest, Sarah Palmer came on to talk about why she decided to go alcohol-free and set up Sobalicious to help others live alcohol-free too.

Sobalicious is an alcohol-free community group with over 300 members who meet weekly online or at face to face events with activities like outdoor swimming and foraging walks.

Sarah shared with us her story of how she went alcohol-free three years ago and what led her to make the decision, and how she hadn't realised at the time the impact of alcohol was making on her mental health as well as her physical health.

There is still stigma and shame attached to admitting you may have an addiction to alcohol and society does have a strange way of viewing drinking with it often being used to celebrate. When you give up alcohol it can make you feel very isolated and awkward at social events but it's something that we can change by talking about it.

Thank you to Sarah for coming on and sharing her story so that others don't have to face going sober alone. Talking about alcohol and how it might be impacting your life with a supportive group can help you cut down or quit and also stay sober.

If you would like to know more about Sarah's Sobalicious group, visit the Sobalicious website, and you can also join the Sobalicious closed Facebook group and follow Sobalicious on Instagram.

Kedren Elliott

My name is Kedren, yes Kedren (my name is a bit strange, like myself).

I'm currently finishing my final year's training to become a counsellor and work at North Staffs Mind.
I'm also someone who has struggled with my mental health and lived with friends and family who have also faced challenges.

Through the happiness hub, I really want to help as many people as I can to find ways to live happier. It doesn't have to be complicated, there are little things we can do every day to help with our mental health and feel happier.

So that's a bit about me, but you can find out more by listening to our Hub Podcast!

Liz Parkin

I'm Liz, Kedren's podcasting side-kick, close friend and gin-buddy for over 10 years.

My mental health challenges started in my early teens and continued through a rather traumatic year in 2004.

It was at this point that I discovered Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) which quite literally changed my life - or maybe my perception on life...

In this podcast I will share with you some of the tips and techniques that I learned whilst training for my NLP Practitioner and then Master Practitioner over 14 years ago. NLP got me through some very dark times and given me a bag of mindset tools and strategies to help me keep my mental health, well... healthy!
