EP016: Special Guests Ryan Smith and Zoe Brown from Speak Up Space

This week Liz & Keds talk to Ryan Smith and Zoe Brown who run Speak Up Space and The Maccas Project. Both services run under local mental health charity North Staffs Mind support young people across Stoke and Staffordshire with their mental health.

Speak up Space is an Instant Messaging Service run 7 days a week through the Speak Up Space Website which also contains lots of self-help information and advice.

The Maccas project runs a weekly online group for young people, where they can talk about whatever is on their mind. The Maccas team also works closely with local schools offering training and support to children.

Speak Up space is celebrating its second birthday this year on the 14th of February and as part of the celebrations, the team is asking young people in the area for help with designing an Instagram post for them to post that day.

To get involved use your imagination to design an exciting post to celebrate.

How to do this:

  • Either draw your design on paper or on your computer
  • Take a picture of your design
  • Send us a private message on Instagram or Facebook with your photo attached
  • The best one will be posted on our Instagram page!

Kedren Elliott

My name is Kedren, yes Kedren (my name is a bit strange, like myself).

I'm currently finishing my final year's training to become a counsellor and work at North Staffs Mind.
I'm also someone who has struggled with my mental health and lived with friends and family who have also faced challenges.

Through the happiness hub, I really want to help as many people as I can to find ways to live happier. It doesn't have to be complicated, there are little things we can do every day to help with our mental health and feel happier.

So that's a bit about me, but you can find out more by listening to our Hub Podcast!

Liz Parkin

I'm Liz, Kedren's podcasting side-kick, close friend and gin-buddy for over 10 years.

My mental health challenges started in my early teens and continued through a rather traumatic year in 2004.

It was at this point that I discovered Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) which quite literally changed my life - or maybe my perception on life...

In this podcast I will share with you some of the tips and techniques that I learned whilst training for my NLP Practitioner and then Master Practitioner over 14 years ago. NLP got me through some very dark times and given me a bag of mindset tools and strategies to help me keep my mental health, well... healthy!
